A Single Moment

We were walking in our woods through the bare trees and leaves that crunched underfoot.   Then we turned a corner, the world was alight with the lowering sun.

 

This week has been extremely full, both good moments and ones I’m happy to leave behind.  But this is the single moment I choose to remember, a walk in the woods with my family.

Joining Amanda today to celebrate the beauty of the everyday.

This boy, this three year old, who tells me very seriously about how eyebrows are stuck on with glue, how he wants to drink milk so that he can grow big like me and draw pictures whenever he likes (even after bedtime).  This boy who calls me ‘Princess’ and tells he will guard me from monsters, who is in turn a puppy, kitty cat and robot.  Sometimes all at the same time.  This boy who says “Can you read this book to me?” in such a way as to make any heart melt.  This boy who hugs like he means it, will all the strength and intensity his little body can muster; when he hugs you, you stay hugged.

This boy who is not really a baby anymore but is still my baby.

This little boy, he sends me crazy half the time, he is frustrating and adorable all at once.  He is nearly 3, doesn’t that just say it all?  I keep trying to remind myself of how little he is, that is it his job to send me crazy!  But there really is nothing like one of his hugs, his arms tight around my neck, his soft cheek pressed against mine.  His complete trust that whatever the problem, Mama can sort it out.

In the midst of the madness it is worth remembering these moments, the perfection within it all.
